Okay, attempt #21
to write a lifestyle-ish blog. With two little girls under the age of 3, I will
dedicate 1 day a week to post a blog. Let’s see how this works.
The title of this blog would be more appropriately names Redecorate the Paul Home, Part 101125 but I don’t have the typing speed nor the patience to detail ALL of the renovations our house has been through in the last 3.5 years, so I will merely focus on those that are currently happening.
We moved into our
home about 3.5 years ago (it feels much longer—in a GOOD way). OMG, lemme tell
you about what the interior looked like before we moved in. BABY BLUE
EVERYWHERE! In the kitchen, the family room, the hallways, and the entry way.
The master bedroom was mint green, the den was mocha brown, one spare room was fuchsia,
the other was blue, and the two bathrooms weren’t painted.
Immediately after we received
the keys to our new home, we painted the guest bath BRIGHT turquoise. Looking
back, I know it was too bright. But we were excited to paint our first room.
(Apartment living doesn’t allow you to change the wall colors.) The next week
or so we spent days painting the hallway, family room, and entry way a beigey
tan. It was a good neutral for the bulk of the house. Next, we painted the
master bedroom chocolate brown. I love that our bedroom is so dark. And with
the blackout drapes—it’s a little bit of quiet and dark, perfect for our master
retreat. Eventually most rooms were painted. The only two non-painted rooms are
the laundry room (which I’m reconsidering) and the toilet room in the master
bathroom.
While on maternity leave the
latter part of 2011 I watched too much HGtv and Bravo shows featuring home
design and decorating. Okay, and I read too many Real Simple magazines. I kept
telling myself that it was time to redecorate. I made little changes like
drapery or throw pillows. But after I returned to work, the nagging thoughts of
redecorate kept running through my nogen. What began with just painting the
hallway and creating a memory wall like the ones I continuously Pin became let’s
redo the main part of the house. Yes—I’m serious. The hubbs and I agreed to get
rid of the beigey tan that consumed our home. Our new base…grey! Stone Wall
Grey. Yes, you read that correctly. It’s pretty amazing. Drew’s only painted
the hallway at this point, but he’s got two more walls that HAVE to get done
before the new sectional arrives on Saturday. Yes—a new sectional. We’ve had
our current couch/loveseat combo for almost 3 years. I’m aware that’s not long.
But the loveseat is currently in the den because we needed more playroom for
our toddler. And the couch isn’t enough sitting space for company. It fits 3,
maybe 4, butts. Where’s everyone else supposed to squat?! So we found this AMAZING sectional at RC Willey on Monday (yup, I <3 Memorial Day sales). And…it’s
RED! Drew and I think that the red is going to pop like crazy with the grey
walls.
Last weekend I made a trek
out to the closest Home Goods, Michael’s, and Marshall ’s and picked some major goodies! I’ll
post pics once I’ve got everything set. My brain is working out the details. I’m
SO excited for our new home décor.
I found this fun run on
overstock.com; it’ll be delivered on Wednesday. Oh yes—it’s all coming
together.
Now the question is…drapery
or no drapery. Our interior is a little small, so no drapery will def open up
the room. Okay…let’s finish painting before jumping the gun. And I think if we
do drapery, they have to be long enough to hit the floor.
Stay tuned…
